Rob has has more than 20 years experience in media, communications and journalism, following 10 years as a secondary teacher. He has taught journalism courses at University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology, developing course materials, mentoring students and conducting seminars, tutorials and practical classes around the development of news writing, feature writing and sub-editing skills. Rob has a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism/Government), University of Queensland; and a Diploma of Teaching (Secondary Science/Maths) Queensland University of Technology.
Rob has extensive knowledge of journalism practice and has held a range of roles (journalist/sub-editor/production sub-editor) at some of the largest selling newspapers in Australia, as well as supporting the work of a range of smaller, regional papers and publications, Rob has contributed to a range of national and international publications. He has been a feature writer for a range of travel and sporting magazines including Australian and British Soccer Weekly, Australasian Cycling and Triathlon Sports, and Surfing World.
Rob has worked in all aspects of newspaper production from reporting to down-table subbing to acting production editor and acting consignment editor. He has worked as a travel writer, food and wine critic, feature writer, political reporter, general and sports reporter. As a sports reporter, Rob covered major events including the Sydney Olympics, The Goodwill Games (2001), and the FIFA World Youth Football Championships in 1993 (Australia) and again in 1997 (Malaysia).
He has won accolades and received commendations for his reporting and publication. He was a finalist in the Queensland Media Awards for a feature article based on an exclusive interview with former legendary Blues musician John Lee Hooker. Rob has interviewed a range of sporting and other luminaries, including Pele, FIFA world head Sepp Blatter, former Australian cricket captain Alan Border, marathon man Rob de Castella, blues musician John Lee Hooker, surfers Joel Parkinson and Mark Occulipo, the Olympic Cameroon football champions, major parliamentary figures, government ministers, mayors and administrators.
